Art Class Schedule 2011/2012

I'm taking reservations for classes from January through the first week of May. There are only a few slots available, so if you are interested, please let me know as soon as possible.
This year's focus is on the foundational elements and principles of art...things like "line", "shape", "color", "value", etc...things every artist uses, sometimes without realizing it, but can do GREAT art when they use them with intention.  Projects will be fun, innovative, challenging and educational. All skill levels are welcome. *Lessons are intended to build on each other, so students will get the most benefit if they register for at least an entire semester. Because of this, students registering for the entire year will be given first priority to make sure they don't have to miss out on an important class due to lack of space, then to students registering for just 1 semester, and then extra slots will be given to students only wanting individual, one-month classes. I'm looking forward to another great year of teaching your kids!

January:Acrylic painting (Exploring the element of "color") We will begin painting this month!  We will be doing some fun experiments, looking at how color "works" from a scientific perspective and students will complete a simple still life using only shades and tints of white. Students will also learn color theory (color schemes, color mixing, and complete an abstract painting that shows their knowledge of pattern, color mixing and color harmony).
$80 including materials  * 3 weeks
February: Painting with textureOur lessons on painting continue with a focus on the element of "texture", and working in 3 dimensional painting. After experimenting with a variety of materials and additives, students will decide on a composition and then use materials of their choice to "build up" sections of their painting so that it has a 3 dimensional look.  Other projects include working with gel medium and a palette knife to achieve a unique look in paint. If time, students will also learn to do a "raised" painting using dots, (Aboriginal style).
$125 including materials *5 weeks
March: - Painting and printing (Learning about "Balance, Scale and Emphasis")Students will be busy this month! The younger classes will do a brief lesson on symmetry (illustrated by doing a fun project of course), followed by a landscape resist painting. They will be learning how to use acrylics as watercolors to achieve a "softer" effect. The older classes will overcome every artists' fear of working on a large blank canvas. They will be challenged to use all of their knowledge of the elements and principles of design learned to design a composition of a subject (close up), in large scale (approximately 16" x 20"). If time, all classes will also do a lesson on "mono-prints" -painting an image on glass and then transferring the image to paper.
$80 including materials  * 3 weeks (no class spring break)
April / May: Collage and book making I'm combining these two months together to make a 5 week class so students have enough time to complete the project. This month is all about painted collage. Students will design their own paper, write their own stories, then use their paper to cut out shapes to illustrate their own book.
$125 including materials ($90 for semester students)  * 5 weeks
