My only expectations are that the kids will feel a high invitation to join in, overcome any fears they have of making art and have a ton of fun doing it. All too often though, kids bring with them a very different set of expectations. Some have been taught at some point that only realistic art has value. On more than one occasion I have overheard a student say, “Mom won’t like this one very much”, or “I guess this one will have to go to Grandma”.
If you are a parent, please hear me on this: expose your kids to as many art supplies and art styles as possible. If they show interest in art, then of course, get them some good instruction, but keep in mind that the real value is in the journey (the learning process), not just the final result.
