World Art spring semester course - In Person

This 8 lesson course will cover art and culture from the countries of Canada, England, Spain, Japan, Brazil and Turkey.  
​Students will use a variety of media including painting on rice paper, feather painting, watercolor, and pencil (graphite and colored) 
*Weekly one hour sessions in my home/studio
*Each student will have their own set of supplies (labeled with their name and for their use only)
*Class size limited to 6 students (may be canceled if less than 4 are registered). 
 *Masks required indoors if Anchorage mandate is in effect. If no mandate, masks will be optional. 
*In person classes subject to change 

Cost: $330 per student ($300 for each sibling)

Choose the day/time that works best for you. *Choose your first choice, as well as one or more alternate times.  Classes may be canceled if less than 4 students register. 
Ages 6-10:
Mondays 4:00 - 5:00,  Tuesday 1:00 - 2:00 or Wednesdays 10:00 - 11:00
Ages 11 and up:
Tuesdays 11:30 - 12:30,  Tuesdays 4:00 - 5:00 

Classes will meet the following weeks: Jan. 24, Jan. 31, *No classes the weeks of Feb. 7 or 14th,  Feb.21st,  Feb. 28th,  *No class the week of March 7th (spring break),  March 14th, March 21st, *No class the week of March 28th,  April 4th,  April 11th


Classes are held at my home/studio in South Anchorage

We'll start the semester learning about  CANADA (2 weeks) and artist Emily Carr as we look to nature for inspiration. Students will use watercolor to paint realistic leaves, then paint a woodland landscape as they learn about perspective and value.

Students will use bamboo brushes , rice paper and yupo  to try "sumi-e", a painting technique of JAPAN.

We will spend 2 weeks on ENGLAND.  First, students will hone their drawing skills as they learn the art of scientific illustration inspired by artist (and Peter Rabbit author), Beatrix Potter. ​

In part 2 of our lesson on England, students will design either a collage, or a poem using printed text, drawing and watercolor.

On to SPAIN.  The first part of this lesson will focus on surrealism. Students will choose between making a fun, folded "exquisite corpse" book, or drawing a surreal scene using a real, everyday object as a prompt. ​

The art of BRAZIL is bright and colorful. Students will use real feather as their inspiration. They can choose to paint directly on
​ the feather, or use it as a reference.

The second part of our lessons on Spain will teach students the art style of cubism. Students will learn how to portray an image from several different perspectives at once. ​
