 Here's an easy clay method that anyone can do and can keep kids (and adults) entertained for quite awhile using polymer clay.  Unlike air dry clay, polymer clay is not messy, and will stay soft until it is baked in a regular oven, so it can be  reworked until you're happy with your design. It's also quite versatile and can be used for a variety of projects.
