September: Inspired by the "Cow Parade" art installation in Chicago back in 1999, and the "Wild Salmon on Parade" exhibits here in Anchorage in the early 2000's, students will design and sculpt their own salmon  out of polymer clay. Using texture, color and creative themes,  each artist will create a unique work of art that celebrates the role of public art in our communities.

*Students in my older classes (ages 10 and up) have the option of doing a salmon or a carousel animal.

November:  Think big by creating small!
*Students  in my younger classes (ages 6-10) will paint their own mini masterpieces, then build a creative environment using borrowed props  (sorry, toy figures not included).  Then they will bring their artwork to life through stop motion  animation.

*Students in my older classes (ages 10 and up) will choose a subject and create a close up painting that transforms familiar objects into bold works of art.  Together, each class will create a miniature gallery.  Using stop motion animation, students will bring the gallery to life using props and storytelling.

December: We'll end the semester with  a lesson on "form" with concrete as our medium.  Students will create functional and decorative containers that can be used as vases, candle holders or organizers for art supplies. They will learn basic casting techniques and how shape influences both beauty and function.
