Travel series:  I don't know that I would call myself "adventurous".  I'm certainly not a thrill seeker...I have no desire to bungee jump or sky dive, but I am a curious person.  I suppose many artists are.  Perhaps that's why I love travel so much.  Seeing new places, trying new flavors, experiencing cultures so different from my own, it's inspirational. My sketchbooks are FULL of favorite moments from experiences around the world and I'm finally starting to bring some of these sketches to painted form.

Annapurna

Years ago, my husband and I were trekking in Nepal. One of my favorite memories is waking up one morning at a "teahouse" in the mountains, warming up with hot chai and muesli before a long day's hike while watching the sun come up on these mountains. Standing at over 26,000 feet (Annapurna is the 10th highest mountain in the world), it's hard to do this scene justice, but I hope this painting captures a bit of the grandeur of the scene and honors the amazing country  and people of Nepal.

Rooftops of Paris

It's hard to deny Paris is one of the most aesthetically pleasing cities in the world. The architecture, cuisine, art, even the language are so beautiful. We were traveling there a few years ago , when a freak spring storm hit and brought the city to a standstill. Our travel plans changed and we "had" to spend an extra night in town (nothing like having the Eiffel Tower and streets to yourself during a snow storm).  When I opened the windows from our room the next morning, the sunlight was just breaking through the clouds and the sky was that famous "rose" color.  April in Paris may be the preferred visiting time, but snow in March is pretty great too.

Common Angles - "New mosque- Istanbul"

Türkiye is one of my favorite countries.  The art and history, the mix of European and Asian is truly amazing.
This painting is titled, "Common Angles" because of the similarities I saw with our home in Alaska....Not the architecture, but the fishermen. In Alaska, every summer, we experience "combat fishing"...anglers lined up literally shoulder to shoulder to hopefully catch a prized salmon swimming up stream. When I saw these fishermen in Istanbul, lined up shoulder to shoulder on the bridge, I had to ask someone what they were fishing for. I was told, "little fish" as he held up two fingers barely 3 inches apart.   Fish on boys!
