On the Easel...
Two of my passions are travel and art. My sketchbooks are FULL of favorite moments from experiences around the world. I'm finally starting to bring some of these sketches to painted form. If you'd like to follow along on this journey, check back here often, or sign up for my newsletter to see new paintings as they are finished and read the stories that inspired them.
I don't know that I would call myself "adventurous". I'm certainly not a thrill seeker...I have no desire to bungee jump or sky dive, but I am a curious person. I suppose many artists are. Perhaps that's why I love travel so much. Seeing new places, trying new flavors, experiencing cultures so different from my own, it's inspirational.
I often carry a small sketchbook with me when I travel (they also make great souvenirs to bring home from exotic places). The tiny sketch above certainly doesn't do justice to the awe inspiring scene from that day. Several years ago, my husband and I did a trek on the Annapurna circuit in Nepal. Waking up to this view early in the morning at a remote teahouse, warming up with hot chai and muesli before a long day's hike while watching the sun come up on those mountains is one of my favorite memories. The peak on the left is Annapurna (the 10th highest mountain in the world). Some say it is harder to climb than Everest.
